      Traditional High Street pub dating back to the 19th Century. Single bar with a separate lower seating area with tables looking out onto the High Street.       A relaxing, cocktail bar that recently moved across the town centre from Lime Street. It offers table service within the town-centre area of wines, cocktails and craft beers. The lighting is atmospheric and helps customers chill out. No real ale is available, however they have recently teamed up with Maule Brewing Company whom are providing craft beer, pilsner and lager (currently the only venue in the area stocking these beers).       A bar serving a wide variety of beers from different independent breweries across the UK. Real ale is only occasionally available from cask. Beers are served in 1/3 or 2/3 pint volumes. There is a good selection of beers, including European beers, in bottles or cans which can be consumed on the premises. Beer from the taps can be taken out in flagons. The selection of beers changes frequently. Real cider is also available on draft. Real Ale is available in bottles and cans from Local and National Breweries. It is in the increasingly popular Prime Ministers (formerly known as Black Tom) area of Victorian terrace houses and acts as the centre for various community activities throughout the year. A variety of board games and a book swap are available while a good range of spirits is also available. With changes to Wells / Brewpoint ales in recent times, only London Pride is currently available as real ale.

      Pleasant late-Victorian pub in a residential area, a Wells house for over 125 years. The front bar has bare floorboards and an open fire, while there is a separate rear bar. The garden has a gazebo for smokers and a non-smoking paved area covered by a marquee in winter. Beer and cider festivals are held twice a year. A range of wines is sold by the glass or bottle.       One of the oldest pubs in Bedford. It was thoroughly refurbished during Covid restrictions making it much lighter inside. A new garden room has also been added. The addition of food service on Wednesday evenings and Sunday lunchtimes, plus bar snacks during the week until 9pm, is another new development. Check Facebook for live music sessions.

      A former bank then Wetherspoon pub The Bankers Draft, and more recently Brewhouse & Kitchen before further remodelling by Amber Taverns. It has an open feel with the seating areas around the main bar area. Muted TV screens (not all showing the same picture) are on all walls while the dartboards are in a separate area with no seating nearby. There are two handpumps while the wide range of other drinks available are listed on the menus on the table.

      A large single-bar, mock-Tudor pub-restaurant near Bedford Park. The emphasis is on fine, home-prepared food, using local suppliers where possible, but casual visitors are welcome just for drinks. It is advisable to book for meals beforehand. The large restaurant is partly housed in a conservatory/garden room. The TV is normally on only for rugby internationals. The pub is leased to Little Gems Country Dining, a regional company with about six pubs.

      Comfortable, refurbished modern pub serving a large suburban area north of the town. There is a comfortable, open drinking area with TV, with a large patio. Separate eating area serving home-cooked lunches and evening meals. Booking for weekends is advised.

      A former furniture store with the bar is divided into five distinct areas on the ground floor. The bar was extensively remodelled when the upper floors were converted for use as a Wetherspoon's hotel. A mezzanine gives access to the upper (non-smoking) outside area with a garden below. An architecturally significant building on the far side of the pedestrianised area from the High Street it attracts a wide age range and is a good place from which to see the world go by.

      The last surviving pub in Queens Park is a lively community local, where families are welcome up to about 7pm. There are occasional barbecues, but no regular food. Only real ale when there's demand (summer?) "But my favourite pub as it's a REAL pub if no real ale !" Wainwright Amber is now on (August 2024) on a trial basis.

      Converted Edwardian residence serving as the clubhouse of the Bedford Branch of the Royal Air Force Association (est 1937). Parking is limited at lunchtime as rear car-park spaces are hired to commuters. The club offers interesting local aviation memorabilia and is home to the Rhodesian Armed Forces Museum (well worth a visit). There is a quiz on the third Wednesday of each month. Following recent refurbishment, a new bar layout has created more customer space and direct access to the smaller cabin bar at the front, which may be hired for functions.       Handsome, partly 18th century hotel next to the Town Bridge over the Great Ouse, an important hotel and conference centre. The magnificent staircase is one of the few surviving artefacts from the ruined Houghton House near Ampthill. There is an award winning restaurant and an outdoor terrace overlooking the river. Real ale is available in the new Pen & Cob River looking out acroiss the river. An annual Beer and Food Festival is usually held in November.

With a variety of rooms holding up to 110 seated guests, it can cater for corporate and private functions including weddings and anniversaries. The magnificent, oak-panelled restaurant was once a local court room.

      Award-winning pub restaurant dating in part from the Tudor period, serving excellent food and beer. The main bar has an open fire and a second room is used for diners and functions. There is a large garden with decking beside a pond. The pub has no prominent signage. Closed from Christmas until the second week of January each year.

      One constantly changing cask beer from breweries like Adnams, Butcombe, Fuller's, Greene King, and Nene Valley.

      Comfortable village inn with oak beams near the Bromham Water Mill Museum and Art Gallery, and the Ouse Valley Way footpath. The building has been an inn since 1798 and retains many old features, despite recent refurbishment and conversion to a through lounge bar. Meals are available in the bar and restaurant, offering a classic pub menu with Sunday roasts.

Spring and summer bank holiday festivals are held, plus a sausage and cider festival in April and a one-day gin festival in June.       Attractively designed village pub re-opened as a free house in May 2016. The small snug and larger lounge are linked by an open doorway and share a wood-burning stove set in the separating wall. The menu offers seasonal fare using local ingredients where possible, providing a range from light bites and sharing boards to larger main meals.

There is a strong emphasis on food, with meals ranging from a lunchtime sandwich menu and afternoon tea to evening main meals, with a roast on Sunday. The patio includes an improved children’s play area and the large garden beyond runs down to the River Great Ouse.

      Large Grade II listed former coaching inn recently reopened after extensive refurbishment. It is predominantly a large restaurant with multiple dining areas but just drinking is still possible, albeit completely seated. The former bar at the front of the pub has now been integrated with what used to be the restaurant bar towards the rear of the pub.

      Originally three 16th-century cottages, this popular village local has an L-shaped bar serving two drinking areas. Excellent home-made lunches are available Tuesday to Saturday. Changing beers are usually from varying microbreweries. Picnic benches at the front and a rear patio garden offer outdoor drinking space in fine weather. Parking can be difficult at busy times. A good refreshment stop for the nearby Greensand Ridge Walk. CAMRA North Beds Country Pub of the Year 2023 and North Beds Pub of the Year 2024.

      A 17th century building with colour-washed rough cast walls over a timber frame, listed for its special architectural and historic interest. The main bar has low beams and a side snug with an even lower ceiling. A second smaller bar, which can be hired for private functions, and a small room at the rear are used for dining. A large garden opens onto fields at the rear. New management from July 2024. One changing real ale. Real ciders will be available at planned festivals.

      A small, attractive, thatched pub near the Cardington airship sheds, with a separate, cosy room at the rear. The building has been an inn since 1772.       Busy inn next to the church, looking over a medieval bridge across the River Great Ouse. At least two guest beers are usually available from an extensive range offered by the pub company. Occasional themed food nights are held, mainly during the winter months.

      Attractive, popular 400+ year-old village inn with a bar and large lounge. There is no car park, but street parking nearby is not usually difficult. There are various seating areas including a private dining room for up to 10, and board games are available. The menu varies daily according to what is in season. Food is prepared to order with a preference for locally sourced ingredients. The staff are proud of an ever-changing selection of ales, including at least one from Tring and the other usually from a local microbrewery.

      A modern pub built in the 1970s after the original thatched building burnt down. The pub sits back from the road behind the car park, with a large garden to the right. The main bar is L-shaped with a wood burning stove. The fireplace is the only part left of the original building. A small room to the right of the door is used for dining and functions. The pub now has its own microbrewery with a range of beers usually available on the bar. The brewery is located in a building behind the pub and has a capacity of 300 litres. The first brew was produced in June 2017. There are two standard beers. Beers are brewed exclusively for sale in the Crown. Production is governed by the demand in the pub, at present brewing takes place weekly. All beer is put into casks, normally 7 firkins per brew. Two Saxby's ciders were available on handpump at the last visit.
